Dr. Mghir received her medical degree from Aleppo University, Syria. After she completed medical school, she arrived in the United States and worked in research at the National Institute of Mental Health on Seasonal Affective Disorders and light treatment. She completed her residency training in adult psychiatry at the University of Washington, Seattle. She then finished a one-year community fellowship at the University of Washington, where she published her research project on Post Traumatic Disorders. Her focus was on the effect of war trauma on the Afghan refugee population residing in the Seattle area at the time. Dr. Mghir also completed a Geriatric Psychiatry fellowship at the University of Maryland, and then worked at the VA hospital in Perry Point, MD. She has been in private practice in Northern Virginia for over 20 years.
